At this point, due to their thousands of jingle-filled ads, surely everyone in the United States (and a few in Canada & Mexico) has seen or heard an ad for freecreditreport.com. Unfortunately the name of the site is a marketing gimmick. If you listen to the end of the commercial or watch the fine print on the tv, you may have noticed they say "Offer applies with enrollment in triple advantage." Yup, you have to subscribe to something to get your free credit report. Fortunately, a while back Congress passed a law that requires all 3 credit reporting bureaus to give everyone a free copy of their credit report once per year. All you have to do is visit www.annualcreditreport.com, answer a few questions that may or may not be on your credit report for each of the 3 credit bureaus and you get a copy of your credit report that you can print out for your own use. Sounds pretty simple hmm? Well it is. Just be aware that if you don't answer their screening questions correctly, they'll require you to mail a drawn-out request form plus copies of identity proving information. Enjoy the tip. -=[crd]=- |
